Abattoir Water Treatment Services provided by RWTS?

Many regional abattoirs rely heavily on fresh water supply for internal process and wash down requirements. In smaller townships water cannot easily be provided to the operation and the company must seek an alternate source to produce the water requirement.

RWTS can support their clients in feasibility studies to seek water from a suitable source and then analyse a treatment process to polish the water to the standard required. This water treatment system may be a multi-train staged scenario with different water quality requirements.

RWTS advocates for sustainable water reuse to improve the cost of high water consumption in abattoirs. We understand the requirements of treating abattoir effluent and the need for a cost-effective water treatment and filtration system. RWTS customer service and hardware reliability is at the forefront of our commitment to our clients.

Westgold | Wastewater Treatment Plant

Another pair of Ecofarmer 250 units on deck for one of our mining clients in Western Australia. Arranged in twin train Ecofarmer 250 design with a Class A advanced media polishing packaged to ensure we meet our clients site compliance.

Client: Westgold

Location: Western Australia

Project: Westgold Cue Village WWTP upgrade

Solution: Twin Train Eco250 units with class a polishing package

Industry: Mining

BACKGROUND

The current waste water treatment facility situated at Cue Village Westgold needed to be replaced due to age and premature wear on the steel structure.

RWWA was asked to submit a proposal to design and construct a suitable waste water treatment system that suited the site hydraulic and incoming biological nutrient demand that would meet the release criteria as specified by governing body.

The new sewage treatment plant (STP) is designed to provide ongoing reliable service and to minimise maintenance requirements, ensuring ease of operation whilst maintaining reliable effluent quality and daily production.

THE RWWA SOLUTION

CUSTOM BUILT WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT

The site compliance targets are based on standard nutrient with Class A disinfection requiring less that 10 Ecoli per 100 ml of sample. Our Ecofamer SBR solution is packaged and delivered complete with our integral Class A glass media filtration system, that will further filter the supernatant from the sequencing batch reactors (SBR) to a higher class of final effluent, to release to ground.

Our glass media design is based on the ‘Drydan Glass,’ a validated and certified media product sold here in Australia. This is a highly refined crushed glass with excellent flux potential, allowing for full rejuvenation through a backwash and chemical clean process that extends to the filtration cycle, as oppose to conventional sand base media.

Our Class A media package is housed in a 20 ft high cube container beside our Ecofarmer treatment units. A dedicated feed pump on the VSD control, will continually recirculate the supernatant fluid over the glass media. Then the flow pace chlorine injection will sanitise the water keeping the media beds at optimal working order, whilst reducing fouling potential free residual oxidant. This will then be monitored and corrected for bacteriological control in the final effluent water body. Once the water has met specification within the chlorine contact residence time, a modulating valve will allow fluid to pass to the irrigation field.

As part of our advanced technology, a centralised Allen Bradley HMI and PLC will engage the operator allowing for full remote access, reducing any unnecessary call out fees.

Results:

The RWWA difference is our unique fabrication process of our engineered certified steel reactors that provide a generous 20 year chassis life guarantee. Our chassis are built from the ground up with 6 mm flat sheet formed and pressed for the walls giving the ultimate in rigidity and corrosion allowance. In addition, a suitable international or Jotun coating is applied to the internal and exterior of the box.

We are committed to providing the highest quality product and service to our customers.

Location: Northern Territory

Solution: 40ft containerised Surface Water Treatment System

Industry: Agriculture

BACKGROUND

Canstruct are constructing new and upgrading existing facilities to support industry activity that is requiring a suitable water treatment facility to cater for persons on site.

RWTS was successfully awarded the contract to supply a 40ft containerised surface water treatment system to produce safe and reliable potable water for human consumption.

When accessing the design of the surface water treatment plant we took into account some key consideration based on site specific risks and project requirements.

Requirements for the WTP for this application were as follows:

  • Variable site loads – load swings and variable quality raw water characteristics
  • Seasonal Variance affecting organic loads, TOC Levels and Algae Levels in raw water supply
  • Upstream Catchment Assessment shows the source water as Category 4
  • Upstream variability in raw water quality including cattle farming – cryptosporidium risk is high.
  • High Protozoa risks associated with the source water combined with the location of the catchment and temperature averages.
  • Indicative raw water test results show an extremely low LSI index (corrosive Index rating) resulting in the design requiring remineralisation as an addition to the primary process requirement.
  • 20 year design life with an acceptable ongoing cost

THE RWTS SOLUTION

CUSTOM BUILT WATER TREATMENT PLANT

RWTS designed and constructed a surface water treatment plant with a nominated design flow rate to provide a minimum of 75,000 litres per day.

The nominated recovery range for this system was 85% – with a worst case expected recovery during very high solids loading periods of 55%.

Raw water required for the 20 kl per day potable water was between 88,500 litres per day minimum and as high as 136,000 litres per day – depending on raw water quality.

There was several stages of the water treatment process implemented into the design and construction of this customize water treatment plant including;

  • Stage One – Chemical Dosing
  • Stage Two- AFM Media Filtration
  • Stage Three – Ultrafiltration
  • Stage Four – GAC Carbon Media Filtration

Solution: Ecofarmer 250

Industry: Industrial Waste

BACKGROUND

Tropical Waste Services are a North Queensland waste handling carter that remove septic systems from surrounding townships. A localised Ecofarmer unit was designed and built to treat waste water fluid to be released back into the council sewer.

THE RWTS SOLUTION

ECOFARMER 250 – WASTE WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM

The 250 Ecofarmer waste water treatment system was designed and fabricated to ensure only quality treated effluent was released in accordance to water compliance. In addition RWTS are providing continuous service and maintenance to ensure a minimum of 20 years life expectancy.

When designing a waste water treatment system, hydraulic and organic loadings must be fixed as a basis for design. Heavy Vehicle Wash Bay for Origin Energy

The RWTS heavy vehicle wash bay solution fuses traditional separation, with high end wastewater treatment facility with filtration componentry all supported within the Australian water sector.

Client: Origin Energy & Sodexo

Location: Reedy Creek lay down facility

Technology implemented: Heavy Vehicle Wash Bay

Industry: Energy

BACKGROUND

Remote Water Treatment Services were successfully awarded a design and construct project to action a suitable wash bay treatment facility that would see the wastewater treated for reuse purposes.

The RWTS system was no ‘off the shelf’ solution, that most other water treatment company’s retail to the market.

Over the past decade we have continually seen so many vehicle wash bay systems underperform in their duty to treat water to an acceptable reuse standard  leaving unsatisfactory and odorous water to wash and rinse whilst more importantly neglecting the impact on human contact.

THE RWTS SOLUTION

HEAVY VEHICLE WASH BAY

The RWTS treatment process included an oversized hydraulic advanced beach pit and sump design separating the initial heavier solids portion – water was then transferred to the designated raw water tanks where pumps continually recirculated and aerated the fluid to prevent stagnant water minimising ordure and keeping particles in suspense  – batched through a Dissolved Air Flotation Process (DAF) with the correct chemistry applied –  treated water was then pumped through a dual set of glass packed media filtration units and then onto treated water storage – treated water was continually recirculated and monitored for turbidity, ph, conductivity and free available chlorine levels. Once the fluid was corrected and in specification it was then released to the hose reels and automated system to begin its cycle.

Although these sound like relatively simple filtration methods, the systems flexibility in design saw an impressive automation and control platform setting it apart from all other systems on the market today.

The heavy vehicle wash bay was programmed and controlled through our sophisticated Allen Bradley software platform with high end analytical instruments used as reference all programmed and calibrated by the RWTS electrical division.

All design work through to factory acceptance testing was completed in house at our RWTS Brisbane facility and completed by our team of professionals.

RESULT

The result saw a bankable wastewater treatment solution offering clean water to the process upon every wash every time.

Constant Access to Data and Ongoing Sampling

In wastewater treatment and other industry processes, “grab sampling” has long been the process operations rely on to achieve data visibility. The problem with this method is that it requires ongoing labour and it only provides a snapshot of conditions when the sample was taken. Programming and automating the sampling process is a more precise way to identify patterns and trends, engage in more meaningful analysis, and make timelier decisions before small problems become bigger ones.

Furthermore automating data isn’t just about collecting more data, it is also about obtaining more qualified data. Our clients can engage remotely online to monitor in real-time, saving the hassle of sending samples to a lab for analysis. Not only will you save time with our automation but also you are guaranteed that the samples will not change in composition between the time the sample is gathered and when it arrives to the lab for processing.

What are the advantages of automation for wastewater treatment plants?

Programming and automation in recent times has become a necessity in wastewater treatment plant solutions. This service is one of the most critical industrial-level activities today when wastewater and water management is concerned. Here are some of the ways this technology is making the process more efficient and cost-effective.

Lower Energy Costs

Not surprisingly, energy use is the single biggest expense for wastewater treatment plants. Programming and automating infrastructure provides one way to reduce energy expenditures associated with a number of critical water treatment processes.

For example the blowers located in holding basins, which keep the water purified. Blowers can account for up to 50% of a water treatment plant’s total energy consumption. Programming and automation can improve cost effectiveness with reducing energy consumption through data collection. Instead of operating the blowers constantly, at a fixed speed, plants can use information about effluent levels in holding basins to apply air and remove solids only when it’s necessary to do so. This reduces energy costs, helps maintain a steady flow and reduces wear and tear on equipment.

Similarly, our automated systems can also reduce the amount of water that is lost during the treatment process, saving your companies plants and your operation additional resources.
