EcoFarmer Sewage Treatment System: Wallumbilla Remote Camp

RWTS supplied two EcoFarmer 100 sewage treatment system to the Santos’ Wallumbilla remote camp.

These WWTPs were acquired from RWTS’s rental fleet. For more information on the systems we offer for lease, click here.

RWTS installed and commissioned a potable water system and wastewater treatment system to the site.

Treated effluent from the EcoFarmer was re-purposed for use by local farmers to irrigate grass areas for livestock.

Santos Cooper Basin Remote Camp | Wastewater Treatment

RWTS were awarded the contract by client Santos cooper basin projects to deliver an engineered wastewater treatment system catering for their remote camps waste water needs out at Tarbat operations, Queensland.

Due to the ever flocculating camp numbers (as low as 15 to 50 ep), the process of  converting the BOD and Nitrogen loadings placed on the plant was a challenge.


The RWTS process team overcame the issue by utilising a biological additive yielding 900mg/ kilo of mass dosed through our dosing system set up. The results allow for a constant and stable mixed liquor within the aeration chambers vital to the growth of essential bacteria.

The wastewater treatment system was completed within the confines of an international shipping container, making for seamless road transportation. Built from the ground up and structurally certified, the wastewater treatment system was the perfect fit for the environment. The hand rails and ladder system were compliant to code, thus allowing for safe height access. Furthermore, the turnkey design minimised the commissioning process so allowed the camp to continue business-as-usual operations while the plant was installed for remote camp tenants by 6 pm.


The treated effluent was then dispersed on the lease via sprinkler system and compliant to the overarching Environmentally Relevant Activity (ERA) as set out by the Queensland Department of Health.

EcoFarmer Waste Water Treatment Plant: Miles Airport

RWTS was tasked with implementing a waste water treatment plant for the Miles Airport in Queensland. 

This project involved the design and construction of a waste water treatment plant as well as its installation and commissioning. The design integrated a wastewater disposal system to the surrounding gardens to re-purpose treated effluent.

Based on the unique requirements of the airport, RWTS chose employ an EcoFarmer 50 – Class B.

BP Roadhouse Haigslea Wastewater Biological Treatment Plant

RWTS were awarded the contract to develop a wastewater biological treatment plant for the newly developed BP Roadhouse in Haigslea, constructed by project builders Procon.

The system encompassed our robust EcoFarmer 100 wastewater biological treatment plant, accommodating the waste of the restaurants, retailer outlets and general public. The EcoFarmer process a Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) in design treats the final raw effluent to a Class B standard with an E.coli output of less than 10 cfu fit for irrigation.

The greatest hurdle of this project was real-estate, as the surrounding concrete hardstand used for the truck lay down area took up all available land which would have been used for irrigation. To overcome this,  RWTS, in consultation with local council, came to the conclusive solution of implementing a  captive dispersal system. This prevented the service station from pumping waste by truck to the transfer station. The irrigation dispersal network was compact, taking the form of 60 x 1m3 fibreglass pots situated in the a customised hot house igloo, planted with Alpinia Gingers. This was an effective solution that allowed for the final release water uptake produced by the treatment process.

A first for RWTS and the wastewater industry, a specialist designed irrigation network was developed with pot drainage to allow the plants to thrive all year round. RWTS, in consultation with various horticulturalists and soil experts, designed the soil for the condition of the final release water. Biannual soil samples are taken and analysed, allowing RWTS to seek immediate action if an issue were to arise with the soil make-up due to irrigation by reclaimed water.

The complete treatment and irrigation process is maintained to the highest of level to this day by RWTS technicians.
