Swickers | Custom-Designed Brackish Water Ecofarmer System

Delivering sustainable water treatment for full onsite reuse

Swickers, one of Australia’s largest pork abattoirs located in Kingaroy, Queensland, worked with Council to prevent placing increasing pressure on the town’s potable water supply. To prevent future reliance on municipal water and improve long-term sustainability, the facility was required to source and treat its own water for internal reuse. Swickers engaged RWTS to design and implement a high-efficiency treatment system capable of supporting their production requirements while reducing environmental impact.

RWTS delivered a 2 megalitre-per-day water treatment system, sourced from localised bores. The system was engineered to treat water to a compliant standard suitable for full internal reuse within the factory’s operations.

To address the complexity of variable bore water quality, RWTS installed a custom-designed brackish water Ecofarmer system, incorporating:

• Pre-ultrafiltration polishing for initial treatment
• A staged reverse osmosis (RO) system, purpose-built to adapt to fluctuations in water composition
• Automated flux control, uniquely developed by RWTS, enabling real-time optimisation of membrane performance and long-term system resilience
• Variable speed drives applied across all pumping infrastructure, ensuring efficient, linear power delivery relative to water output.
